Sara Gardner and Sigal Samuel discuss Oznat Barzani

Thursday, March 24, 2022, 8:00–9:00 pm

Women in the Rabbinate is a four-part course presented by the JWA in partnership with Central Synagogue that marks the 50th anniversary of Sally Priesand's ordination as the first woman rabbi in the United States. Join leading scholars and rabbis, including Priesand herself, to learn about the history of women's rabbinic roles before and since that groundbreaking moment.

On Thursday, March 24 at 8 PM — Sara Gardner and Sigal Samuel will discuss Oznat Barzani (also spelled Asnat Barazani), a highly educated and respected Torah scholar and yeshiva leader in seventeenth-century Kurdistan.

JWA presents virtual courses with scholars of Jewish women’s history, delving into the lives, challenges, choices, and innovations of Jews who changed our story. Sessions are designed to stand alone, so attend as many evenings as you’d like! No advanced reading or preparation required. Registrants will receive the Zoom link and access to session recordings.
