Program Manager for Social Justice

Job Summary/Objective:

The Social Justice Program Manager will work closely with our Adult Engagement and Communications Teams to deepen and grow Central’s social justice advocacy initiatives, volunteer efforts, and learning programs. Primary responsibilities will include: interfacing with congregants around volunteer and advocacy projects, building and deepening relationships with justice organizations around the city, and administrative support for Central’s Director of Social Justice Organizing and Education. The position requires efficiency and strong organizational skills. Areas of work include: criminal Justice reform, re-entry after incarceration, immigration reform and refugee resettlement, climate justice, and food justice.

Department Hours: 

Full-time, exempt and not eligible for OT, Monday through Thursday 9:30 am – 5:30 pm, Friday 8:30 – 4:30 pm, or equivalent, occasional evenings, expected to work some of the High Holy Days.  Central Synagogue employees are not eligible for fully remote work.

Essential Duties/Key Responsibilities:

Administrative/Project Support:

  • Primary responsibility for day-to-day logistical and program support for Justice-based events and projects

  • Coordinate and manage ongoing volunteer opportunities for Central members

  • Work with Communications Team to create content and increase registration

  • Collaborate with Rabbi Haber and assist with various administrative tasks

“Central in Action” Lay Leadership Team and Central Welcome Project:

  • Collaborate with Rabbi Haber to support lay leaders who are guiding Central’s advocacy and service initiatives and resettling refugee families

  • Provides administrative support and oversight for CIA and Welcome Teams

  • Coordinate meetings and program details with outside organizations

Building New Relationships and Opportunities Around NYC

  • Create new partnerships outside of Central to support community-led efforts

  • Engage Central members in the work of NYC organizations

  • Bring speakers and learning opportunities to Central

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree preferred

  • 3+ years relevant work experience preferred in a role serving members, the public, and other stakeholders; Jewish/faith based or non-profit social justice setting

  • Experience in program creation and project management

  • Technology: High level of computer literacy required (we use Windows): proven ability to quickly learn new software. Experience with SalesForce or similar CRM, knowledge of Zoom and Microsoft Teams a plus.  Tech support and training provided.
