A Look at Our History: April 2013

A visitor, Natalya Rolbin, came to our Shabbat services in 2009. During that planned visit, she celebrated good news regarding her unborn child, in an atmosphere which gave her the peace she sought. During her visit she made a sketch of our building “to honor its beauty” and celebrate her joy. Happily, Natalya recently sent her sketch to Central Synagogue’s Archives. Our Archives contain Central's history, both historic and current, including documents and photographs of our impact on our larger community.

This story began last winter when our clergy learned that longtime member Wendy Siegel was ill with leukemia. In the span of two weeks, more than 1,000 people hoping to become bone marrow donors for one of our congregants have swabbed their cheeks with the Gift of Life organization.

President’s Message

In response to Rabbi Rubinstein's announcement today, Congregational President David B. Edelson shared the following message:



As you know by now, Rabbi Peter Rubinstein has decided to step aside as the Senior Rabbi of Central Synagogue effective June 30, 2014.



When Rabbi Rubinstein arrived at Central in July 1991, we had no idea how big an impact one man could have on our community. We have been blessed beyond imagination. Our goal is to ensure that Rabbi Rubinstein’s legacy of innovation and excellence continues under new leadership."
