Take Action for a Healthy New York

February 18, 2022

Jewish tradition offers us a comprehensive blueprint for how to build just and caring communities. From the very beginning of our story, we learn that we are knit together with a clear directive toward mutual obligation and responsibility.  To be a Jew is to be alert to who is struggling, who has less, and how to assist someone without diminishing them. We are instructed to care for people who are vulnerable, provide for people who have fallen on tough times, and to open our homes to that person who might need an open door.

Over the last few months, our Central in Action Team has met with synagogue members to learn about some of the issues of deep concern to our community. We identified a common theme in all our conversations: a shared desire to support the health and safety of all New Yorkers and to ensure that all New Yorkers have the resources and tools they need to strive for the same goals we do.

We are excited to introduce you to our collective vision for Central in Action for a Healthy New York: a multi-faceted initiative to raise our individual and collective voices in favor of programs, legislation, and policies that create and nurture healthy, safe, and thriving New York communities.

Through our research and relationships with our nonprofit and interfaith partners, we have identified a variety of new advocacy campaigns to which we want to introduce you. We believe these campaigns, across a spectrum of issues of importance in our city, will go far toward building a healthier and safer community for our congregants and all New Yorkers: Clean Slate; RAC NY’s Climate Covenant; Fair Pay for Home Care; and Healthy Minds, Healthy Kids. You can learn more about these campaigns and how to get involved below.

Together, we can enact God's blueprint for our world and help build thriving communities across New York.
