The Fight Against Antisemitism

October 27, 2022 | Messages From Leadership

The following message was sent to the congregation on October 27, 2022.

Dear Central Family,

Yesterday, I joined anchors Gayle King, Tony Dokoupil, and Nate Burleson on CBS Mornings for a conversation about the rise in antisemitism across the country (watch here). With the current news cycle and the uptick in antisemitic incidents locally and globally, I know this issue is weighing heavily on our community.

Many of you have told us your children are asking about antisemitism, or you have reached out with your own questions for addressing this painful and deeply entrenched hate in our society. Below, we have curated resources about antisemitism for people of all ages. While these conversations are never easy – and we wish they were not necessary – we hope you find comfort and strength in knowing your Central Clergy, educators, and staff are here for you and your family. Please don’t hesitate to reach out.

As I shared in my Rosh HaShanah sermon this year, one of the most meaningful ways we can fight antisemitism is to live as proud, knowledgeable, and committed Jews. In a world that far too often aims to frighten and silence us, I encourage you to embrace your Jewish identity, culture, and values.

I could not be prouder of our dynamic, compassionate, and thriving Jewish community at Central Synagogue.

Sincerely,

Rabbi Angela Buchdahl
