President

Shonni Silverberg

Shonni Silverberg, MD, is an endocrinologist and Professor of Medicine at Columbia University College of Physicians & Surgeons. Shonni’s career has been devoted to the care of patients with osteoporosis and parathyroid disease, and to the clinical investigation of these disorders. At Columbia, she is Clinical Director of the Metabolic Bone Diseases Unit and Medical Director of The Parathyroid Center.

 In addition to her role at Central Synagogue, Shonni is Vice-Chair of the Board of Trustees of The Hastings Center for Bioethics and Public Policy. She also serves on the President’s Advisory Council of Hebrew Union College and on the AJC Leadership Council. Shonni was previously the Senior Vice Chair of the Board of Trustees of Wesleyan University, Vice President of the Board of Trustees of The Metropolitan Coordinating Council on Jewish Poverty, Trustee of The Dalton School, and a member of the Ben Gurion University of the Negev Medical School for International Health Advisory Committee.

Shonni earned a bachelor’s degree from Wesleyan University and an MD from Cornell University Medical College.  Shonni, her husband John Shapiro and sons, Zachary and Nathaniel, have been members of Central Synagogue since 1999.
