A leader whose work is rooted in authentic relationships, Cantor Julia Cadrain is dedicated to helping people find peace amidst the challenges of modern life. She finds inspiration in connecting people through music, ritual, and spiritual practice.

Cantor Cadrain grew up in West Hartford, Connecticut, steeped in a deep love for music and religion. She received a bachelor’s degree in classical vocal performance from the New England Conservatory in Boston, and both a master’s of sacred music and cantorial ordination from Hebrew Union College Jewish Institute of Religion Debbie Friedman School or Sacred Music.

Cantor Cadrain joined Central’s Clergy team in 2012 and serves Central’s congregation in numerous and varied capacities: She created, co-produced, and performed on Sounds of Shabbat, an album of beloved Shabbat music, and Sounds of Healing, an album of comforting prayers. She directs Central’s adult b’nei mitzvah program, conducts the teen choir, and loves ushering families through peak life cycle moments.

Cantor Cadrain is also a certified vinyasa yoga instructor, and a graduate of the Institute for Jewish Spirituality’s Clergy Leadership Program. She is inspired by exploring the interplay between Judaism, mindfulness, and yoga, and creating new and innovative practices with integrated Jewish content. Cantor Cadrain lives in Park Slope, Brooklyn, with her wife Elana and their two children.
